The consignee in the BL cannot receive the cargo as long as the shipper hasn’t sent the release request to shipping line or submitting Original BL to consignee. In other words, you can hold a cargo in destination while you are using ocean Transportation, unlike Road transportation that is not possible or might engage you in very complicated legal issues to hold or return the cargo.

Of course, this must not be forgotten that not all countries are the same and you should spot the dangerous areas for your trade. Because in some parts of the world it happens that consignee takes the control of goods without shipper’s permission however its illegal based on shipping rules.

Different Ocean Transportation Types

Container:

Commodities in container are rather safer, since there is a strong metal box around the cargo. there are different container types most famous ones are 20′ ft and 40′ ft. however there other types such as 10 ‘ ft or 45 ft and some other subgroups like high cubes.

used for commodities with huge volumes or oversized cargoes which are not fit in the container.
